Hedgehog's Music Room

The music room currently houses two drum kits (one electronic, one real), a clarinet, a cornet, a glockenspiel and several boxes of what are best described as 'shaky things'! Oh, and a rainstick from somewhere in the far east. It makes a lovely noise! I think it's made from a four-foot length of dried cactus with the spines hammered in, and the middle filled with river gravel. We've got a couple of plastic rainsticks too, but they're not quite the same.

The latest addition is a marimba - it makes a lovely noise! Now we just have to learn to play it properly!

Sharon

I used to play clarinet for Morley and District Concert Band. I joined in 1999 when I moved to Leeds. I now play for Wakefield Orchestral Wind Band in Ossett.

I started playing when I was about 13 and passed my Grade 5 exam just before I sat my A-levels. I played with the school orchestra and swing band, and also played in several school productions.

At Aberystwyth University I joined the Wind Band. Whilst at Aber we went to Ireland where we did two concerts in Wicklow and Arklow. In my final year we recorded a cd.

Wakefield Orchestral Wind Band's web site can be found here.

Tim

My percussionist boyfriend plays for Rothwell Temperance Band. They are a Championship Section brass band and won the International Masters contest in 2006. For more information have a look at their web site. Oh, and buy their CD! It's very good - there aren't many left!

Tim has been writing a percussion teaching book and now has a web site dedicated to promoting and selling it - Progressive Percussion. I've been trying to play some of the stuff in it and it looks pretty good to me! Not too sure the neighbours appreciated what I sounded like though! I need more practice.
