Chippenham Weather Data
This site is located on the eastern edge of Chippenham in Wiltshire. The altitude is 60 m above sea level and there aren't any hills nearby that would make a significant difference to the rainfall.
Data collected includes:
* Current (8:30am ish), maximum and minimum temperatures for previous 24 hours
* Current wind speed and direction, and maximum speed for previous 24 hours
* Current atmospheric pressure in mB
* Rainfall for previous 24 hours
* General details of weather
The weather station is mounted on the television aerial pole on the gable end of the roof and consists of an anemometer, wind vane and electronic thermometer. Atmospheric pressure is measured on the display box in the house and the rainfall is measured using a calibrated plastic cone at the bottom of the garden. An electronic rain gauge (it counted drops through a mesh) came with the original kit, but it stopped working a few years ago.

Warning: The rainfall figures are reliable and the average temperature figures might not be too bad, but the maximum temperature is definitely not reliable. It is probably a few degrees higher due to heat radiating from the roof tiles in the late afternoon. So if you do intend to use the temperature data for anything it is only good when compared to itself over a period of time.
The original weather station slowly packed up so a new one was installed last year. The thermometer is no longer on the roof and so should give better readings. It measures several more different things like humidity. The data can be uploaded to a computer and the software will draw graphs etc. Unfortunately, I live too far away to play with it on a regular basis!
